Félix Édouard GUÉRIN-MÉNEVILLE (1799-1874), French entomolog - Lot 32
Félix Édouard GUÉRIN-MÉNEVILLE (1799-1874), French entomologist. Autograph manuscript, signed. Paris, September 29, 1845. 1 p. in-4. Sparse and faint spotting. Discovery of mites: "The two mites that Mr. Rayer observed on or in the diseased potato constitute a very interesting observation from the zoological point of view [...]. The one with eight complete legs, each ending in a small sucker, seems to me to be very close to Hering's Glyciphagus prunorum [German entomologist Erich Martin Richard Hering (1893-1967)], but, if Hering's figure is correct, it would differ in the suction cups on its legs, which seem much smaller. If Mr. Rayer publishes it, he could call it Glyciphagus seculorum. The other species, which has eight simple legs terminating in a double ergot, can only be placed in the genus Tyroglyphus; it is close to Tyrogl. Domestique [...]", he proposes a name for this new genus, etc. Enclosed: [GUÉRIN-MÉNEVILLE, Félix Édouard]. BORSARELLI, Pietro Antonio (1805-1878), Piedmontese chemist and pharmacist. L.A.S. to French entomologist Guérin Méneville (1799-1874). Torino, July 1, 1847. 1 p. in-4. Header of the Reale accademia d'Agricoltura of Turin. Engraved pastoral vignette. In italian. Letter of nomination for corresponding membership of the Société d'Agriculture de Turin. Borsarelli warmly congratulates Guérin Méneville on this title.
