[ENTOMOLOGY]. "Description d'un ver-luisant trouvé le 6 mess - Lot 25
[ENTOMOLOGY]. "Description d'un ver-luisant trouvé le 6 messidor an 10e". S.l., June 25, 1802. 4 pp. in-12. Subtitles in red ink with marginal additions throughout. Erasures and corrections. Manuscript containing a description of the anatomical features of a glow-worm. The worm seen from the back: "[...] Its body appears to be formed of eleven annular and angular scales or parts. The one under which the animal withdraws its head is rounded at the tip. The last, which forms part of the belly, imitates a bird's rump. From head to tail, a small whitish line runs down the middle of each year. Each of them also has a small tinge of white around the edge, except for the two that cover the corselet, whose border is rose-red. The rest is an earthy brown [...]. When the animal walks, it lengthens by 3 lines, each piece crossed by a white line. Its head is black with two antennae of the same color [...]". This is followed by a description of the animal "Seen from the belly and lying on its back", then the lantern and rump. The author then adds "Ce ver a vécu jusqu'au 22 messidor an 10", referring to the naturalist Jacques-Christophe Valmont de Bomare (1731-1807).
