Joseph DECAISNE (1807-1882), botanist, co-founder and president of the Société Botanique de France. 3 L.A.S. addressed to naturalist and botanist Emmanuel LE MAOUT (1799-1877). S.l., August 6 and 14, 1867 and "March 29" n.d. Two letterheads from the Muséum d'Histoire naturelle, Chaire de Culture. 6 pp. ½ in-8. Correspondence concerning corrections to be made to their joint work, entitled "Traité général de botanique descriptive et analytique [...] ouvrage contenant 5500 figures dessinées par MM. L. Steinheil et A. Riocreux", published the following year (1868). Decaisne refers to lichens, algae, tubercular fungi, etc., in his drawings. He says he has withdrawn a drawing of an amanite whose cortine [a set of filaments that joins the edge of the cap to the upper part of the foot of this fungus] was "inaccurately represented", he reviews chinospores, actinolhyrium, orders an index of the species of fungi in the work, mentions Didot's confiscated proofs, etc.
