Georges CUVIER (1769-1832), the great naturalist, director o - Lot 21
Georges CUVIER (1769-1832), the great naturalist, director of the Muséum. Letter signed to Dominique François Delise (1780-1841), French botanist and lichen specialist, then at "Isle de France", i.e. Mauritius. Jardin du Roi, September 14, 1829. 1 p. in-4. Cuvier uses the ichthyological drawings sent by his colleague for his Histoire naturelle des poissons and offers his malacological knowledge: "It is with the greatest interest that I have seen the beautiful drawings of fishes that you have kindly sent me and which contribute so powerfully to enriching my work. I [...] beg you [...] to continue to provide me with all the help that your zeal and your position in the middle of such a rich ocean enable you to give me. Until I can show you my gratitude by offering you one of my productions, worthy of your fine gift, I beg you to accept the work I have published on the anatomy of molluscs [...]".
