Simon-Louis-Pierre de CUBIÈRES (1747-1821), naturalist and b - Lot 19
Simon-Louis-Pierre de CUBIÈRES (1747-1821), naturalist and botanist. Autograph letter signed to citoyen Duchesne, secretary of the Société d'agriculture in Versailles. 3 pp. in-4. Versailles, 1er brumaire [year 8, October 23, 1799]. Publication of his Mémoire sur les abeilles. He has just read his Mémoire sur les abeilles at the Société de Nîmes. "I have found as much indulgence in my Paris audience as benevolence in that of Versailles: but I am not blind to success, and I feel that it depends entirely on interest in the winged people of whom I have spoken [...]. I expect from your friendship that you will carefully read the manuscript I am sending you and that you will give it the honors of printing if you deem it worthy. If, as our colleague Leblond has told me, you will one day publish it for the company, I beg you to print, on my behalf, two hundred more copies and to follow the proofs, as I will be away. Like the bees, I'll also be flitting about, and I'd like to bring you a few combs from Italy that are worthy of you. I would also ask you, once you have set up your presses for my succiflore people, to kindly send twelve copies of the work on my behalf to the Société des sciences [...]". He also asks him to have the beehive engraved. On the back, notes in Duchesne's hand calculating the cost of printing the work.
