Henri DESMAZIÈRES (1786-1862), botanist from... - Lot 23 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Henri DESMAZIÈRES (1786-1862), botanist from Lille, collaborator of the Bulletin de la Société botanique de France, author of works on cryptogams. L.A.S. to Edouard Lamy, banker in Limoges. Lille, March 18, 1844. 2 ½ pp. in-8. Address and postal mark on the back. Henri Desmazières addresses the issues 15, 16 and 17 of the second edition of his Plantes cryptogames de France, asking him for a refund of the sums incurred. He then gives him his advice for works on mosses. "I think that the Bryologia universa, by Bridel, two vol. in-8, would still be the work that would suit you best for the study of mosses. The Bryologia Europaea of Bruch and Schimper is more modern, but it is very expensive, because all the species are represented; it is a folio that I saw, like you, in Paris [...] ". He gives him the address of Schimper, in Strasbourg, and of a Parisian bookseller. He also lists several other works on algae and mosses, and asks him to send him a plant he is looking for.
