Lajos KOSSUTH (1802-1894), Hungarian patriot and politician. Autograph letter signed. 1 p. ½ in-12. [London] "21 alpha Road", Nov. 20 [1853]. "Dear friend! Here is Sir Joshua Walmsley's reply word for word: "Should the committee come to the conclusion that I am the right man to be it but if they can induce a more popular man to take the chair I will support him. I think, therefore, that you should hasten to announce your meeting by newspapers and posters, saying that Sir Joshua Walmsley M. P. for Leicester will preside over the meeting. P. for Leicester will preside and that L. K. "will assist & speak". Also you should write to Attwood pledging "not to let Sir Joshua unsupported as his coming out on this occasion, may lead to that extended organisation which Mr. Attwood was first to advise & pledge, provided Sir Joshua is not discouraged by seeing himself left alone by the influencial names of England at his first start". You should still repeat your invitation to Scholfield Fox etc. [] ". Attached is a set of press clippings on Kossuth and his funeral. 600 / 800 €
