Charles THÉVENIN (1764-1838), neo-classical painter. - Lot 483
Charles THÉVENIN (1764-1838), neo-classical painter. Autograph letter signed to Chambellant, treasurer of the King's House in Rambouillet. 2 pp. in-8. Paris, August 2 [1828]. Address on the back. Restoration of a lacerated painting for the King's House in Rambouillet. He gives news of the operation of lining the painting. "It is finished now and materially the damage is repaired; it is necessary to repaint now the parts where the laceration removed the colors; I entrusted this work, which is the most difficult, to an artist very skilled in this kind; but it takes time for these connections, it is necessary to return to it several times and to wait until the first tints are dry; what makes, sir, that it is impossible that the painting is in place at the time when Mr. the priest would like it to be there []. I therefore have every reason to hope that this restoration will be as perfect as the poor condition of the painting will allow.
