AISNE. Henri-Joseph-Claude de BOURDEILLES (1720-1802), bisho - Lot 282
AISNE. Henri-Joseph-Claude de BOURDEILLES (1720-1802), bishop of Soissons (from 1764 to 1790). L.A.S. to Champion de Cicé, 1 p. in-4. [Belgium] Emmasick ? 23 Sept. 1794. Address on the back with wax seal. Letter on his steps to support and place the exiled priests, who arrive every day. He mentions the case of the nuns placed with the Beguines, but "they were so dissatisfied with it that they decided to go to Munster, which we are very happy about because three others from the same congregation have arrived, which no longer wants to receive foreigners. If all this continues for a long time, Your Excellency, we are going to be very unhappy; there is a continual flow of priests here. The good parish priests have placed more than three hundred of them and they can no longer find any resources. It seems that they are beginning to be very bored with having us []".
