Jacques MASSU (1908-2002), general, companion of the Liberat - Lot 212
Jacques MASSU (1908-2002), general, companion of the Liberation. 6 L.A.S. 9 pp. in-4 and in-8, on his letterhead. Conflans-sur-Loing, 1981-1984. Beautiful correspondence evoking De Gaulle, Leclerc, Salan, France, Algeria. "The soldiers of France who served under the 4th Republic, from 1946 to 1958, participated in colonial wars under the orders of socialist governments. They then discovered the communist support to their successive adversaries, in Indochina and in Algeria. It would appear to them today as a betrayal of all their leaders, comrades and subordinates who fell on these battlefields, to vote for a socialist-communist combination. "In 1946, I appreciated the rallying of Gal Salan to the views of Gal Leclerc, concerning the policy to be conducted in Indochina. In 1958, I was happy that he took over the leadership of the Movement for French Algeria, of which I had been the detonator by heading the "Public Salvation Committee of May 13" []. I think he shouted "Long live De Gaulle" on the balcony of the General Government, for having thought, as we all did, that Gal de Gaulle was the only one, after the cascade of "governments" of the Fourth, who could put France on its feet, by keeping Algeria in the French Republic. In April 1961, he chose a dead end []. The disease of the conflict between honor and discipline has claimed many victims, to the great damage of the French Army []". He also comments on the reinstatement of the putschist generals, the election of Mitterrand won "with the help of Mr. Chirac, Mr. Debré, Mrs. Garaud, who were pulling in the same direction as him against Mr. Giscard d'Estaing []", speaks about the way he considers the role of the officer, etc.
