Antoine ÉTEX (1808-1888), sculptor. L.A.S. to the art histor - Lot 202
Antoine ÉTEX (1808-1888), sculptor. L.A.S. to the art historian Charles-Philippe de Chennevières (1820-1899), inspector of the Museums, in charge of the annual exhibitions of living artists. 1 p. ½ in-8. Paris, May 16, 1853. Envelope attached to the 2nd leaf. "I came yesterday to the Menus-plaisirs to have the honor of asking you on what day it would be more convenient for you for me to make the repairs to my large group, as it was agreed before Mr. Director of the Museums. He will come to the exhibition on Thursday morning to make the repairs "with a practitioner". [This is most probably the colossal group, Le Dévouement ou les naufragés, made in plaster for the 1853 Salon, which was sculpted in marble in 1859, exhibited and much admired at the 1867 World's Fair, acquired by the city of Paris and erected in 1886 in the Montsouris Park].
