Léon CLADEL (Montauban 1835-1892). Poem A.S. and 7 L.A.S. - "Rondel for the 18th birthday of Miss Isabelle Roma". 1 p. in-8. January 21, 1889. - 7 letters to different correspondents, 1873-1889. Moving correspondence that reflects the difficulties of the poet, torn between debts, poor sales of his books, difficulties in staging his plays (in particular Ompdailles that was to be staged at the Porte Saint-Martin with Sarah Bernhardt). To a creditor who threatened him, he sent severe letters, promising him a deposit if his book sold well. He agreed to give up part of the royalties from his drama Ompdrailles, le Tombeau des lutteurs. "Where you discern only ill will, there is only prolonged impotence and misfortune. Others who were equal to me and even better suffered and died from their sufferings. Think of Charles Baudelaire who was obliged to go abroad and only returned to Paris to die. He was just as old as I am today; my poor master, who is now lifted to the pinnacle and who was ignored as long as he breathed [] ".
