Léon CAUVY (1874-1933), orientalist painter, director of the School of Fine Arts of Algiers. 4 L.A.S. and 1 P.A.S. (+ 1 graphite drawing) to Constant Louis Nessler, founder of the Nessler Museum. Four beautiful letters and a sketch of Léon Cauvy, orientalist painter, about commissions of paintings which will be exposed in the Nessler Museum. They are annotated in the margin by the hand of Constant Louis Nessler. First of all, a painting commissioned for 3000 francs in 1913, Léon Cauvy explains: "Wishing to satisfy you, I am willing to agree to the execution of this painting for the price of 3000, but I would be greatly obliged to you not to reveal this price, because I take into consideration in this case, the entry of my work in your museum where I will be happy to appear. As for the second commission in 1918, Cauvy proposed one of his paintings presented in the Orientalist exhibition "Interior of a Moorish Court". A pencil sketch of the proposed painting is included in the letter of March 20, 1918. Included is a receipt for the purchase of the painting "Moorish Courtyard Interior" and two other paintings "Market Corner to Square House."
