STANISLAS LESZCZYNSKI (1677-1766), last duke... - Lot 174 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
STANISLAS LESZCZYNSKI (1677-1766), last duke of Lorraine (1737). Autograph letter signed to the count of Tressan (1705-1783), 1 p. in-4. 9 February 1752. Superb letter to Tressan after his election to the presidency of the Academy of Nancy. "Your letter, my dear Tressan, is an academic speech which enchants me by your ordinary eloquence and which touches me by your feelings, which I owe to your favorable prevention for me []. I am charmed by the care you take to promote your direction; it will be easy for you to succeed and to meet the expectations of the public. It will give me great pleasure to tell Mr. President Haynaut how sensitive I am to what he says in his letter, and to assure him of all my esteem and friendship; please do not fail to thank Mr. Moncryf for the beautiful present he has given me of his works. It is to your affection for me that I owe these favors that I receive from your friends [Tressan, Hénault and Moncrif were all members of the Académie française]. I hope that after the first session in Nancy, I will have the pleasure to see you [] ".
