SEINE - PARIS. Claude-Louis VASSÉ (1717-1772), sculptor, prize of Rome (1739). 2 autograph pieces signed and 1 handwritten piece. 3 pp. in-4. Paris, July 16, 1771. On the tomb of François de Chevert in Saint-Eustache, raised and sculpted by Claude-Louis Vassé. "I, the undersigned, acknowledge having received from Monsieur le marquis de Crussol d'Amboise the sum of two thousand four hundred livres for the small mausoleum that I made and placed in the church of St Eustache in memory of Monsieur de Chevert []", accompanied by a "Mémoire des dépenses de la pose du petit tombeau placé à St Eustache à la mémoire de M. de Chevert". A third document, in the hand of the marquis de Crussol, indicates the text to be engraved on the funeral plaque (1 p. in-4, with corrections) : " Cy git François de Chevert / commandeur grand croix de l'ordre de St Louis [] / Sans ayeux sans fortune sans appuyé / orphelin dès l'enfance / il entre au service à l'âge de douze ans [gravé XI ans] / il s'éleva malgré l'envie à force de mérite [] / Il étoit né à Verdun sur Meuse le 2 février 1695, il mourut à Paris le 24 janvier 1769". The funeral plaque and the bas-relief of General François de CHEVERT (1695-1769) are located at the entrance of the Saint-Eustache church. Other great men are buried there: Colbert, Marivaux, Furetière, Samuel Bernard, etc.
