RHONE. Antoine-François DELANDINE (Lyon 1756-1820). 7 autograph manuscripts (drafts with erasures, corrections and passages crossed out). 36 pp. in-4. One has the mention : " by M. de Landine, read on March 21 [17]88 ". Important set of "historical fragmens on Lyon": "L'observance" (8 pp., mention "the first four pages were not printed"), "St Irénée" (8 pp.), "Rue des Albergeries" (4 pp.), "Rue Thomassin" (5 pp. of which the first one entirely crossed out), "Notice historique sur la rue et porte Trion" (7 pp.), "Note sur Sébastien Gryphe, imprimeur de Lyon" (4 pp.) Attached is a double draft of a letter of dispatch (2 pp. in-8). "Gentlemen, more than 1500 writers have spoken about Lyon and several have even devoted their works only to the history of this city. How is it then that it is so little known, even by its own inhabitants []. It is these facts that I am trying to gather. But far from having the audacity to undertake a new history of this city and to follow this chronological order, so exact, but at the same time so arid, I will leave the mass of objects to occupy myself with the details, and instead of writing about Lyon in general, I will limit myself to the history of its squares, of its views and of its remarkable monuments. I will tell the events of which each district was the theater. Each citizen interested in his house, his property, will perhaps read with more pleasure what happened under the very eyes of his family and his fathers; and all possessing at least the particular history of each place of the city, its general history will be universally known [] ".
