MOSELLE. Henri François d'AGUESSEAU (1668-1751),... - Lot 127 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
MOSELLE. Henri François d'AGUESSEAU (1668-1751), chancellor of France. 5 signed letters (3 to Mathieu de Montholon first president at the parliament of Metz, 1 to "Mrs. officers of the Parliament of Metz", one to the president of Tailfumyr de Cussigny). Paris 1739-1750. 13 pp. in-folio. On the subject of "the doubt which was formed in the Parliament of Metz on the occasion of the registration of the provisions of Mr. de Fresnel second son of Mr. President de Tailfumyr", he concludes: "Ainsy the Parliament of Metz having been created following the example of that of Paris, it cannot do better than to conform to the use which is observed there, by making take place to Mr. de Fresnel on the large bench after the president of the Parliament of Metz. de Fresnel on the great bench after he has taken the oath, without however that this place, taken only for the form and for a moment, can give him any rank as long as Mr. President de Tailfumyr will preserve the exercise of his office [] ". Some letters concern the bishop of Metz: "I made see to Mr. Bishop of Metz the sentence of the bailliage of Vic where one gives him qualities which wounded the eyes of the Parliament of Metz when the appeal of this sentence was carried before him, and Mr. Cardinal de Fleury spoke about it to this prelate []". A letter is devoted to the fact of knowing if the president of the treasurers of France in Metz can take the title of First president. Another is about the dispute between the bishop of Metz and the Parliament. The last one concerns the establishment of a "house of strength", the construction of which must be postponed because of the war. "But, in the meantime, the hospitals where the beggars are confined have been considered by most of the courts as being able to take the place of a house of strength, and I do not know why the Parliament of Metz has not ordered that the two girls whom it condemned for theft be confined for a time in the general hospital of Metz [] ".
