JURA. Parchment, 56 x 15 cm. Brussels, 1645. Bends. - Lot 117
JURA. Parchment, 56 x 15 cm. Brussels, 1645. Bends. Second battle of Poligny. Letters of grace and pardon granted by Philippe IV, after a dispute between two inhabitants of Poligny who fought in the second battle of Poligny. Jean-Baptiste Jacquenet "having taken the souppe with Jean Collot of the said place of Poligny", a discussion was engaged on the subject of the "siege of the castle of Grimont made by the lord of Antorpes" [Alexandre d'Emskerque d'Antorpes] "the supplicant having maintained that he arrived there the day that the place was attacked, the said Coullot reproached him nine or ten times that during the fight he had hidden in a den and that he would have preferred to have been taken prisoner than to have withdrawn in this way, which the said suppliant reproached him for not having been taken prisoner because without his assistance he would have rotted in the prison from which he had withdrawn with his own money []. In his just defense he struck a blow to the left side of Coullot, from which he died a few moments later []. [The second battle of Poligny or battle of the castle of Grimont, episode of the 10 years war, took place on August 10, 1638; it opposed the French garrison of Poligny to a detachment of the Comtoise army.]
