EURE. Charles-Victor, viscount of ARLINCOURT (1788-1856), romantic writer. He had bought the castle of Saint-Paër, near Gisors, where he gave sumptuous parties, notably the one of 1825 in honor of the duchess of Berry. - 7 autographed letters signed to Antoine Passy, in a dense writing. Château de Saint-Paër, 1835. 12 pp. in-4 and in-8. Important correspondence entirely devoted to the troubles in the commune of Saint-Paër, vigorously opposing the appointment of the new mayor, Mr. Lefèvre, whose conduct he denounces. "The violent conduct of Mr. Lefèvre which has stirred up the whole country; he has threatened the laws, the mayor in the exercise of his functions, has been insulted in front of him by his workers. He caused citizens armed against each other to be ready to kill each other. He did not only attack by force and at night, a communal property, but he compromised the public safety; and you will learn with sorrow that the Sr. Gallois deputy mayor is very dangerously sick as a result of the outrages which he lived and the seizures which he experienced in the deplorable night of the 14th to the 15th of this month [] ". He tells all these events with details. - Piece signed for true copy, 2 ½ pp. in-folio. Concerning a canal illegally built in Saint-Paër by Sieur Lefèvre to supply his new zinc factory. Account of the intervention of the authorities. Attached is an epitaph by Viscount d'Arlincourt "in memory of Galey, deputy of the commune of St-Paër." 1 p. in-8
