DOUBS. 2 very interesting documents of 1563, relative to the delimitation of the imperial city of Besançon with the duchy of Burgundy. - Autograph letter signed "Selesmes? "commis du Roy à la décision des différents des limites du comté de Bourgogne et la cité de Besançon", addressed to "commis de l'Empereur" (address on the back). Dôle, 15 June 1563. 1 p. in-4. Transcript attached. "You know that by our last receipt was granted that the horse of Aulbin Mestrot de Merez (?) and the arquebus of celluy of the city of Besançon will be returned respectively to guarantee []". - Period copy of the deliberation of the authorities of Besançon of May 7, 1563, 2 pp. in-4 (transcription attached). "If the answer of His Highness is favorable and that it writes to the court of Parliament or to the clerks something that must move them to make some good treatment to the people of Besançon, the clerk will return with that to this city. If not, he will take the response he will make to the Emperor and from Flanders will go to Allemaigne and will go to see His Majesty, wherever he may be, to present him with this response and to make the appropriate representations to him in order to obtain provision for the troubles and indefinite vexations that are being made to the people of Besançon by those of the county of Burgundy. Some are of the opinion that before sending to Flanders one must go to Monsieur le Très Révérend archevesque, who is part of the party and communicate to him the above, similarly to Monsieur le Gouverneur, with whom one will meet at the place of Gy (?) and obtain from them letters to the court and to the clerks of the county such as they may be able to do in order to see if by their means one will be able to arrive at some good end of all of these affairs [] ".
