LOIR-ET-CHER. Count Achille de ROCHAMBEAU... - Lot 57 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
LOIR-ET-CHER. Count Achille de ROCHAMBEAU (1836-1897), historian and archaeologist, president of the Société archéologique du Vendômois, founder of the Comité national du Vendômois. L.A.S. to Alexis de Gourgues. 4 pp. in-12. Rochambeau, August 5, 1866. Header with his crowned figure. He received his memoir on the cut flints of the Vézère river banks. "This stone age has for me a very great charm []. Our Vendôme region also possesses samples of this primitive industry and I will soon have the visit of my colleague and friend the abbot Bourgeois; we must explore together our sandpits of Rochambeau []. It is in a layer of rolled pebbles resting on the chalk with spondylus truncatus that we find our cut flints. Our diluvium offers the so-called spearhead type. A few rare examples of the subtriangular type and a host of knives, scrapers, arrow heads, etc.. I do not know of any bone caves here, or at least none have been explored yet []".
