Friedrich Wilhelm SCHULTZ (1804-1876), botanist and pharmaci - Lot 38
Friedrich Wilhelm SCHULTZ (1804-1876), botanist and pharmacist from Alsace, specialist of rosaceous plants; he published by centuries appearing every 2 years, his Herbarium normale: Herbarium of new, little known and rare plants from Europe, mainly from France and Germany. L.A.S. to Charles Des Moulins, 2 pp. in-8. [Wissembourg, March 24, 1860]. Address on the back with stamp. Having passed 56 years of age, he feels his strength diminishing and would like to bequeath all his collections to an institution. "The preparation and distribution of my centuries takes all my time and I have none left for study and scientific observations. If a public institution or a private individual were to take me as curator of its collections and its garden, I would give it, as property, all my botanical collections (my herbarium, the materials of my centuries, which fill two large rooms, so large that they would be called salons in Paris, as well as all the plants that I cultivate in the garden) under the condition that I would remain the curator until the end of my days [] ".
