Gaspard MICHAUD (1795-1880), malacologist. - Lot 36
Gaspard MICHAUD (1795-1880), malacologist. L.A.S. to Charles Des Moulins. 4 pp. in-4. Perpignan, December 30, 1828. Address on the back. Superb scientific letter, very long and dense, embellished with a small sketch, entirely devoted to his studies of shells and mollusks. It is part of his work on the continuation of Draparnaud's work on shells, which he will publish in 1831 in his Complement to the Histoire naturelle des mollusques terrestres et fluviatiles de la France by J.P.R. Draparnaud. He makes a long and meticulous description of his shipments, in order to determine them, in agreement with Charles Des Moulins. "[] The characters that Blainville gives to the Pyramidelles cannot in any way apply to my n°11 Cesithium. I am very embarrassed to assign it the true genus. It has regular and well-marked longitudinal striae while the pyramidelles must be smooth; it has no teeth on the outer edge and the inner one has not the slightest trace of a fold. The description of the genera Cerite Blain. suits it in all respects and taking its species E. genus potamide Brong. Pyraze d. m. I think I should assign it to the genus Carithium since it is the only genus that seems to be more suitable for this rooster. I await, however, your new opinion on this subject [] ". In 1829, he published an article in the Bulletin de la Société linnéenne de Bordeaux entitled: "Description de plusieurs espèces nouvelles de coquilles vivantes".
