William PLAYFAIR (1759-1823), Scottish engineer and economist, a specialist in diagrams. Autograph letter (written in the 3rd person), addressed to Knight Eckhardt. ½ p. in-8. Address on the back. Paris, undated [ca. 1810-1820]. "Mr. Playfair has the honor to present his compliments to Mr. Eckhardt and to ask him to do him the honor of accepting the two printed papers under envelope, one for Mr. Eckhardt and the other for monsieur le baron de Batz []." [Jean-Pierre de Batz (1754-1822), financier and royalist agent, had tried to make Louis XVI escape.]
