Salvador Dali (1904-1989). Terpsichore, Muse of the Dance, ca. 1971. Bronze with brown patina. Signed at the bottom. Numbered 4/4 at the bottom. H : 29,5 cm (without base). Special edition, publisher Diejasa. Accompanied by a certificate from the Descharnes Archives dated 6 May 2014. Listed under No. 405 in the book Dali- Le dur et le mou- Sculptures et objets par Robert et Nicolas Descharnes. The Clot collection, composed of 44 pieces was born from a contract signed between Dali and Isidro Clot, Catalan art lover and dealer in 1973. All these bronzes are made of wax kneaded by the hands of the brilliant artist. The material in which Dali chooses to give shape to his works is not innocent: malleable without constraint, the beeswax is also rich in symbols to which the artist was sensitive. Used since the Antiquity for the moulding, and thereafter in the Renaissance by the greatest sculptors, it is it which led to its loss Icarus approaching too close to the sun. The inspiration for the ensemble is to be found in the Mediterranean basin, and in particular in Italy. Thus, among the 44 sculptures published in bronze are Terpsichore, Muse of the Dance, playing with her veils in the manner of a surrealist Isadora Duncan, and Condottiere, Warrior's Head, a Dalinian homage to the Italian Renaissance master, Donatello.
