Mycology. Jules de Seynes (1833-1912), botanist and mycologist, founding member of the Botanical Society of France. Manuscripts and autograph notes on mushrooms from the French Congo. Congo and Gabon: Kouilou, Loudima, Diélé, Ogowé, Kangwé, Lambaréné, Ndjolé, etc., [circa 1889-1899]. Folds, tears, etc. [circa 1889-1899]. Numerous re-use papers: letters, wedding announcements (including that of Pierre de Coubertin) or mourning cards, etc. [circa 1889-1899]. Unique and important set of archives gathering notes, sketches, watercolour drawings, corrected proofs and manuscripts by Jules de Seynes, on mushrooms from the French Congo, observed and classified for nearly ten years in the 1890s. All of which were used to compile his book: Recherches pour servir à l'Histoire naturelle et à la flore des Champignons du Congo français, published in Paris, by Masson & Cie, in 1897. The set includes : - About fifteen classification folders in which are several sub-classifications listing the notes, research and descriptions of Gabonese mushrooms by type: polyporous, oronga, clitocybe, collybia, dictyophora, inocybe, fungi, marasmius, etc. - Several manuscripts relating to the mycological riches of Congo and Gabon, various notes of classifications and two dried specimens, with about 100 ff. of sketches and pencil drawings, sometimes enhanced with watercolour. - Manuscript map on tracing paper enhanced with colours, with precise study locations. In-4 oblong. Lack of tracing paper without damage. - 9 autograph notes signed by Elie Allégret (1865-1940) pastor and missionary, of the Société des Missions évangéliques de Paris, relating to mushrooms from the Congo. Physical descriptions: colours, shapes, sizes, growing location, etc. Talagouga, Gabon. February, March and April 1895. - Autograph manuscript of the introduction by Jules de Seynes. 6 pp. in-4 (+2). - More than 50 ff. of original pencil drawings
