Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794), chemist.... - Lot 35 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794), chemist. Two letters written in his name by his wife and collaborator Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze (1758-1836), scientist, draftswoman (David's pupil) and illustrator; she drew the plates for the Traité élémentaire de chimie and commissioned David to paint the famous portrait of the Lavoisier couple; she remarried the American physicist Benjamin Thompson, Count of Rumford. These two letters are addressed to the botanist André Thouin (1747-1824). 1 p. in-8 and 1 p. in-12. The first one is dated "mercredy morning": "Mr. Lavoisier has the honour of making a thousand compliments to Mr. Thouin and has him say that he will take the quantity of water chestnuts he wishes to give him. If he has brought them for him and has not made arrangements to place them, he will take them all; on the contrary, if Mr. Thouin has commitments to fill them, Mr. Lavoisier will be obliged to give him a hundred, if he can. He asked his dear colleague to let him know the day and time when he would have to send for them and the way to transport them ". The second is undated: "M. Lavoisier has the honor to warn his dear colleague Monsieur Thouin that essential business will only allow him to go to M. Delalande [the astronomer Joseph Jérôme Lefrançois de Lalande (1732-1807)] around midday and a half. He would be very sorry if this hour was not convenient for him. He warned Mr. Delalande and Mr. Tenon [the surgeon Jacques Tenon (1724-1816)].
