Alexander Agassiz (1835-1910), American zoologist,... - Lot 1 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Alexander Agassiz (1835-1910), American zoologist, curator of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, he made important expeditions to Lake Titicaca. L.A.S. Cambridge, Massachusetts, January 12, 1880. 2 pp. in-8. Heading of the Museum of Comparative Zoology. Alexander Agassiz prepares his campaign of dredging of the American coasts. "I am beginning to pack the crustaceans of my last expedition and I hope to announce their departure in a few days' time. I am very pleased to know that you are willing to undertake to make descriptions and drawings of the most interesting things for our Bulletin. I will put another copy of the gigantic Leopod in this consignment so that you can study its anatomy in order to keep intact the one you have and which is not only the biggest but also the most perfect one I have dredged. This summer I plan to dredge along the Atlantic coast from Charleston to Cape Town...". From 1877 to 1880, Agassiz took part in three oceanographic dredging expeditions aboard the Coastal Research Service steamer Albatross.
