[RAMBAUD Antony] SECOND ADVOCACY FOR THE... - Lot 395 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
[RAMBAUD Antony] SECOND ADVOCACY FOR THE THIRD ESTATE OF DAULPHINA (sic). In PARIS, at Jean LE BLANC, 1600. A volume, small in-4, paperback of 56 ff., brown cardboard, mute, of the period. Good copy. In this second plea, the author denounces the Dauphiné judicial authorities as "hypocrites", they had, according to him, excessive pledges, he adds that, "without them the world would be happier...". The trial of the Sizes agitated the Dauphiné for almost a century. The issue at stake in this trial was the base of the taille, the main royal tax. The real starting point of the Tailles trial was the hearing granted by Henri IV on 19 September 1595 to representatives of the Third - State of the Dauphiné. They obtained the decision to have the trial decided by the King's Privy Council and not by the States of the Province. From then on, the Third State organised itself and, at the Assembly of Saint Marcellin in October 1597, it chose three representatives: Claude de Lagrange, of Saint Marcellin, Jean Vincent, of Crest, and Antoine Rambaud, of Die, all three men of law. Each one published pleas in favor of the cause of the Third - State.
