ARTS AND CRAFTS. BOX OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS. IMPERIAL SCHOOL OF ARTS AND CRAFTS OF SHAWLS. A mahogany box early 19th century 36 x 22 x 7 cm (approx.), 4 feet (1 cm). Three removable interior floors lined with green felt, a lock and its key. Only a few small chips in the corners. Nice condition. More than 30 instruments.
The mention "École impériale d'Arts et Métiers de Châlons" is engraved on the branch of a large metal protractor.

Arts et Métiers is one of the oldest engineering schools in France, founded in 1780 by the Duke of La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt in his domain of Liancourt. It moved to Châlons sur Marne following the decree of 5 September 1806 to become the Imperial School of Arts and Crafts of Châlon sur Marne. This move followed a decision by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Very rare box, complete and in good condition, having belonged to a pupil named Ferat (engraved on one of the instruments).
